Coronavirus crisis: see a urologist by video

Due to the coronavirus crisis, in most cases it is currently not possible to attend appointments at the University Hospital Basel in person. The Department of Urology at the University Hospital Basel has now become the first clinic to offer video consultations. Further services are set to follow.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Hospital Basel (USB) has cancelled all operations and appointments that are not considered emergencies or very urgent. In doing so, the USB is complying with the order issued by the Federal Council on 16 March 2020.

To ensure that patients can still receive urological care, the Department of Urology at the USB is offering video consultations, starting immediately. For urological problems or general urological questions, an appointment can be made with the Department of Urology’s registration office: tel. +41 61 265 72 80 or e-mail anmeldung.urologie@usb.ch. The doctors in the Department of Urology will then contact patients at the agreed time.

A computer or smartphone with a camera and microphone is required for video consultations. The USB’s Department of Urology will provide patients with simple instructions for video calling. Telephone consultations are also possible.

Other clinics at the USB are preparing video consultation services too. Most are already offering telephone appointments, including Obstretics and the Eye Clinic. You can register by calling the USB’s central office on tel. +41 61 265 25 25. The Department of Dermatology has also been working on setting up telephone dermatology appointments for some time via the hautproblem.ch portal. This involves patients taking a photo of their skin change and filling in a questionnaire.
People with flu-like symptoms are being asked to report to the test centre for testing for the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and COVID-19. The test centre can be found close to the emergency centre in the Predigerkirche church (open daily from 8 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.). People without symptoms will not be tested.

The Department of Urology at the University Hospital Basel and all other clinics wish the inhabitants of the Basel region all the best for the period ahead of us.
