New Head of Complex Coronary Interventions at University Hospital Basel

PD Gregor Leibundgut will take over as Head of Complex Coronary Interventions at University Hospital Basel (USB) as of 1 September 2022. Gregor Leibundgut has led the cardiac catheter laboratory in Liestal since 2015 and has headed the entire cardiology department at Cantonal Hospital Baselland (KSBL) since 2017. Under his leadership, the Interventional Cardiology department at KSBL has achieved both national and international recognition for its complex coronary interventions.


Gregor Leibundgut studied in Basel and completed his medical and scientific training at USB and the University of California San Diego in America. He was awarded the specialist doctoral qualification in cardiology in 2010 and completed his post-doctoral studies at the University of Basel in 2017. He acquired his interventional training and expertise in complex interventions on the coronary arteries at the renowned University Heart Center Freiburg ∙ Bad Krozingen. Gregor Leibundgut has authored/co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications. He is an internationally recognised specialist in complex coronary interventions (CHIP) and the reopening of chronically occluded arteries (CTO).
