Since then, decisive conceptual innovations have been introduced, particularly in the areas of minimally invasive thoracic surgery and the treatment of patients with lung cancer.

In recent years, the treatment of lung cancer has become increasingly complex. At the University Hospital Basel, we have an international center of excellence with the Lung Center, where experts from all disciplines involved are integrated in order to plan and carry out the optimal treatment for each patient in accordance with current international guidelines.
An absolute prerequisite for thoracic surgery is extensive training and special experience in the necessary surgical techniques. This is the only way to ensure a high quality of treatment and a low surgical risk for patients. The great advantage of the University Hospital Basel is the ability to perform technically demanding procedures in collaboration with other surgical disciplines(cardiac surgery, visceral surgery, ENT, etc.).
