Patients are referred to the intensive care unit within the University Hospital Basel via the emergency ward, the wards and after operations/interventions by the responsible specialists.

As a university center, the intensive care unit is available to external intensive care units for complex patients and in the event of capacity problems for referrals by bilateral agreement.
