We examine patient samples using microscopy and molecular genetics to ensure that our diagnostics provide the basis for optimal treatment planning. Thanks to our close collaboration with the other clinics in the Department of Diagnostics and beyond, we are a central hub for highly specialized and academic medicine at the USB.
Our research team is highly specialized, interdisciplinary and translational. We try to better understand the mechanisms of disease development and thereby derive more precise diagnoses and targets for innovative therapeutic approaches. One overarching research focus is tumor diseases.
The term pathology comes from the Greek and means "the study of suffering". A central role in medical education, further education and training is therefore an important part of our work. We are involved in interdisciplinary student teaching, but also in numerous internal and external training events with a particular focus on promoting young talent.
