The Center for Skin Tumors at the University Hospital Basel was founded to offer patients holistic and comprehensive therapy and support for their skin tumor disease. The University Hospital Basel has a long and successful tradition in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. In addition, the University Hospital Basel also conducts basic and clinical research in the field of skin cancer.

Patients benefit directly from the excellent collaboration between a wide range of specialists who can make a positive contribution to patients with skin tumors. In addition to basic care, the center also offers patients cutting-edge medical services.

The proximity to teaching and research guarantees the current state of knowledge, the latest and most effective therapy strategies and an international exchange. Permanent members of the regular interdisciplinary conferences are doctors from the fields of dermatology, plastic surgery, visceral surgery, oncology, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, pathology, genetics and radiology.

The aim of the Center for Skin Tumors is to determine the safest and quickest, but also the least stressful diagnosis for skin cancer patients in a given constellation. The holistic therapy is planned according to international guidelines, which all members of the Center for Skin Tumors agree to.

Furthermore, the optimal and most sensible tumor aftercare for the patients is determined and the specific care partners in the further support of the patients are determined. The Skin Tumor Center continuously updates its knowledge of skin cancer treatment and incorporates new findings directly into the care concept.

The Center for Skin Tumors at the University Hospital Basel offers patients all scientifically documented treatment options that have been confirmed to be effective. In addition to surgical procedures for the removal of skin tumors and optimal reconstruction, laser and soft X-ray therapies are also modern options. Radiosurgery and local immunotherapy are also part of the spectrum. Of course, we also work together with alternative medicine therapists at the patient's request, provided that the respective method can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine.

These forms of therapy are particularly suitable for localized tumours. The treatment of facial skin tumors is of particular importance. Patients with advanced skin cancers and metastases often require whole-body therapies, which must be carried out with tablets or infusions. This chemotherapy is carried out by cancer specialists (oncologists). Groundbreaking new chemotherapy options have been introduced for black cancer in recent years, which are administered by our oncologists. Modern radiotherapy using all techniques is a further pillar for patients with even extensive and advanced skin tumors.

The decision as to which type of therapy should be carried out for patients with complex skin cancers is made in the interdisciplinary tumor conference with all specialists.
