Referring nutritional advice
Referrals for nutritional advice are made internally via the clinics and centers of the University Hospital Basel.
You can refer your patients to the endocrinology consultation via this link.
Here, the entire range of treatments is explained to patients and the further procedure is determined together. Any referral for nutritional advice will be made from there.

Regulation for nutrition counseling Switzerland
For the following medically indicated services, nutritional advice is covered by health insurance with a doctor's prescription (KLV, Art. 9b):
- Metabolic diseases
- Obesity (body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2)
- Overweight (body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m2) associated with a secondary disease that can be favorably influenced by weight reduction
- Obesity in children and adolescents (body mass index > 97th percentile). Or body mass index > 90th percentile and secondary diseases caused by or in combination with obesity, according to Annex 1 Chapter 4 KLV
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Diseases of the digestive system
- Kidney diseases
- Malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies
- Food allergies or allergic reactions to food components
