Surgeons during an operation

The Department of Vascular Surgery is part of the University Vascular Center Aarau - Basel. This is an intercantonal vascular surgery department at two locations: the Cantonal Hospital Aarau and the University Hospital Basel.

The aim of this intercantonal department is to ensure optimal treatment of vascular surgery patients. All vascular surgery procedures are performed here on a regular basis.

These include the treatment of

constrictions or occlusions

  • of the carotid arteries (carotid stenosis),
  • of the pelvic and leg arteries (peripheral arterial occlusive disease (intermittent claudication), as well as

  • of the thoracic and abdominal aorta (thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm)
  • of the pelvic and leg arteries.

Particular emphasis is placed on a therapy tailored to the patient and the situation. This optimal therapy is worked out at regular interdisciplinary meetings.
