OP coordination

OR Coordination assumes organizational responsibility for OR operations in the East and West OR wings.

It assumes the role of the control unit by taking organizational responsibility for both the elective OR program and the integration of emergency procedures into the daily schedule.

As the link between the various players and professional groups in the OR area, it plays a key role and supports the personnel coordination of the OR technology and surgical storage specialist nursing teams as well as the availability of medical technology.

OR planning

The OP Planning unit is responsible for drawing up the short and medium-term OP programs and works closely with the OP Coordination unit to implement them.

OR planning is based on the standardized OR registrations of the various clinics and takes into account a variety of different factors such as clinic-specific features.

The specialization of OR technology is an important pillar of university OR operations and indispensable for high-quality care.

For this reason, specialist departments were established at the University Hospital Basel with the aim of reducing the breadth of care and focusing specifically on the depth of specialization.

Operating theatre operations do not consist exclusively of highly complex procedures that require specialization. In addition to this aspect, there are also emergency procedures for which basic care must be ensured.

In order to ensure sufficient flexibility in operating theatre operations, the specialized departments with the largest overlaps are merged organizationally.

This makes it possible to deploy specialist expertise where it is needed. And to provide rapid surgical care for less complex procedures by covering a broad range of general OR expertise.

In addition to reduced organizational and planning costs, this also benefits from faster decision-making processes and harmonization in terms of increased process quality.

Tasks OP Technology

The surgical technique is divided into the specialist areas "Abdomino-pelvic & Female", "Thoracic Organs & Vessels", "Head & Spine" and "Musculoskeletal".
