Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric neurosurgery is a highly specialized field. We treat children with rare diseases of the central nervous system, skull and spine. Thanks to specialized, interdisciplinary treatment teams and innovative neuroscience research, we are able to offer the children affected by these conditions state-of-the-art medicine based on the latest research findings.

Our Innovation Focus on Pediatric Neurosurgery enables us to develop new therapies for rare diseases, which we can offer children from Switzerland and abroad. We want to find innovative, new therapeutic approaches that will enable us to treat children even better than before.

For example, we were able to introduce a new method to treat craniosynostosis. This new method is minimally invasive, using the endoscopic technique. In our research laboratory, we are developing new therapies using stem cells from umbilical cord blood. We use these therapies to treat newborns with brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. Thanks to this Innovation Focus, we have now been able to extract these stem cells from the umbilical cord in cooperation with the Obstetrics Ward and investigate their healing properties.
