Pediatric neurosurgery

Pediatric neurosurgery

Paediatric neurosurgery is a highly specialized field. We treat children with rare diseases of the central nervous system, the skull and the spine. Thanks to specialized, interdisciplinary treatment teams and innovative neuroscientific research, we are able to offer affected children state-of-the-art medicine.

With the Pediatric Neurosurgery Innovation Focus, we can develop new therapies for rare diseases and offer them to children at home and abroad. We want to find innovative, new therapeutic approaches with which we can treat children even better than before.

For example, we were able to introduce a newly developed method for the treatment of craniosynostosis. The new method is minimally invasive and is performed endoscopically. In our research laboratory, we are developing new therapies using stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood. We use them to treat newborns who have suffered brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. Thanks to the innovation focus, we have now been able to obtain these stem cells from the umbilical cord in collaboration with the obstetrics department and research their healing effect.
