Doctor examines patient's ear

Offer

In the ear, nose and throat department, we treat illnesses and emergencies around the clock.
We offer expertise in implants and treat adults and children.

Benign and malignant head and neck diseases are treated in our clinic. These include diseases from the lip of the oral cavity to the pharynx, larynx and the entrance to the oesophagus and windpipe.

We specialize in the treatment of the salivary glands, thyroid and parathyroid glands. Benign and malignant tumors of the skin on the face and neck are also treated surgically and the defect corrected functionally and aesthetically if necessary.

We use the latest, gentle surgical techniques with lasers, endoscopes, navigation and the DaVinci surgical robot. We also treat rare diseases such as paragangliomas, orbital tumors and tumors of the base of the skull.

We are networked with other clinics and centers at the University Hospital Basel to ensure optimal treatment for our patients. The staff responsible for the operation have solid training and many years of experience. We offer our treated patients regular aftercare and preventive examinations.

Our clinic treats all diseases and functional disorders of the nose. This includes acute and chronic inflammation of the nose and paranasal sinuses, restrictions to nasal breathing and the sense of smell as well as aesthetic changes to the shape of the nose or even tumors of the nose.

Initially, the diagnosis is symptom-based, if necessary also in collaboration with radiologists. Depending on the disease, treatment can be conservative with medication or surgery.

Frequent operations on the nose include operations to improve function (correction of the nasal septum), operations for chronic sinusitis and aesthetic corrections to the shape of the nose.

We work closely with oral and maxillofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, radio-oncologists and oncologists, particularly in the case of tumors in the nose.

The Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic treats all diseases of the ear.

To diagnose diseases of the ear, we first carry out a specialist examination. If necessary, further tests are carried out, such as CT or MRI examinations, hearing tests or tests of the vestibular system.

We then suggest a treatment for the patient. Our team has extensive experience in the conservative and surgical treatment of ear disorders, including the implantation of all common hearing systems. Thanks to our extensive expertise, we also frequently perform complex ear operations and can thus keep complications to a minimum.

Information on the cochlear implant (CI) ci-basel.ch

Many people with a hearing impairment benefit from a conventional hearing aid. However, if the hearing loss is more than 90 decibels, it is usually not possible to provide those affected with satisfactory hearing aids despite the latest technologies and professional hearing aid fitting by an acoustician. Despite adequate amplification, such patients achieve speech intelligibility of less than 50 percent. Everyday communication is therefore very limited. In such cases, a cochlear implant can help.

A cochlear implant electronically replaces the natural transmission of stimuli from the auditory sensory cells to the auditory nerves. It consists of a speech processor worn on the outside and an implant. The speech processor looks similar to a hearing aid and is usually attached behind the ear. This speech processor sends the signals through the skin to the actual implant, in which a thin electrode array is inserted into the cochlea.

Our team provides comprehensive care for more than 300 patients with a cochlear implant.

Pediatric otorhinolaryngology (ORL), i.e. ear, nose and throat diseases in children, is increasingly viewed internationally as an independent sub-discipline of ENT.

In close cooperation with the University Children's Hospital of Basel, we treat all children with a wide variety of ear, throat and nose disorders. This treatment includes, for example, the clarification of hearing disorders (pedaudiology) or medical and surgical therapies for congenital diseases, inflammation of the ears, tonsils or sinuses. State-of-the-art techniques and diagnostic procedures are used for this purpose.
In addition to our collaboration with the University Children's Hospital of Basel, we also maintain close ties with one of the largest centers for pediatric ear, nose and throat diseases in Europe, the Hôpital Necker in Paris, France.

We attach great importance to a sensitive approach to this special group of patients, with the aim of providing optimal treatment and promoting development.

Phoniatrics deals with all disorders of the voice, speech and swallowing. The larynx is the central organ here. Today, highly specialized examination methods such as stroboscopy, voice analysis, narrow band imaging and radiological imaging enable precise diagnosis. Our team has the specialized expertise to be able to help those affected with treatment.

Do you suffer from dizziness? In our neuro-otological dizziness consultation, we carry out comprehensive clinical and instrumental investigations to find the causes of your symptoms. As part of the interdisciplinary sensory consultation, your symptoms and the findings will be discussed by your treating ENT doctors together with colleagues from neurology, psychosomatics, ophthalmology and physiotherapy, so that an individual therapy concept can be created for you (Head: Prof. A. Welge-Lüssen).
