Forehead lift / eyebrow lift

A forehead lift is always combined with an eyebrow lift. If the position of the eyebrows has dropped over time, the face looks tired. In the beginning, this can be compensated for by plucking the eyebrows, but not later on. In this context, it is important that the correct diagnosis is made by a plastic surgeon who recognizes that it is the eyebrow position and not the upper eyelids that make your face look tired. Lifting the upper eyelids cannot achieve the desired effect. An additional lateral lift of the eyebrows is usually performed during the same procedure.

In a classic forehead lift, the incision runs behind the hairline from the temples upwards in an arc to the crown of the head. Alternatively, the forehead lift can also be performed endoscopically in most cases.

Stitches: are removed after 7 days

Drains: 2 soft drains for 1-2 days

Scars: fade after 6-12 months

Eyes (eyelid lift / blepharoplasty)

Hardly any other part of the face is observed more intensively by the person opposite you than your eyes. The fine skin around them quickly shows the effects of light-induced skin ageing caused by too little sleep or nicotine consumption. An eyelid lift is an effective procedure that makes you look rested and refreshed without making you look "operated on". This is why the eyelid lift is the most commonly performed facial procedure. It is also increasingly an operation requested by men.

The upper eyelid lift is performed by excising a strip of skin from the outside. The lower eyelid lift can be performed transconjunctivally ("from the inside") or through a fine incision on the lower edge of the eyelashes ("from the outside"). The appropriate technique depends on the amount of excess skin or fat.

Stay: Outpatient or 1 night

Operation duration: 1/2 hour (upper eyelids), 2 hours (upper and lower eyelids)

Anesthesia: local anesthesia (upper eyelids) or general anesthesia

Stitches: are removed after 5-7 days

Drains: None

Postoperative: socially acceptable after 14 days, able to work after 3 weeks, sports after 4-6 weeks

Scars: fade after 6-12 months

Lips

The shape and fullness of the lips are decisive factors in the face and are unconsciously used to assess a person's character and vitality. Narrow lips look "grim", smoker's lines around the mouth look unkempt and make the face appear older. Corners of the mouth that end downwards make the facial expression appear bad-tempered or even haggard.

A fuller volume and a smooth lip surface with an accentuated red-white border (cupid's bow) and the philtrum can be easily achieved by injecting fillers. We only use absorbable materials (e.g. hyaluronic acid) or, in special cases, the patient's own fat, which provides lasting volume. Lip augmentation is performed under local anesthesia. The effect is permanent after the application of autologous fat. The resorbable fillers have an effect of 3 to 6 months.

A small but effective procedure is the corner of the mouth lift. It can be performed under local anesthesia.

We also offer lip pigmentation (medical tattooing).

We do not recommend the use of semi-absorbable or non-absorbable filler materials such as silicone due to the unpredictable undesirable side effects such as granuloma formation and the asymmetries that often result. However, we do offer corrective procedures if you have developed side effects from this therapy, which is unfortunately still being carried out elsewhere.

Ears / Otopexy

Protruding ears can be a major problem for children and adults alike. In many situations, they cannot be hidden and are visible to everyone. Depending on the extent of the deformity, part of the pinna is reshaped or only the position of the pinna in relation to the head is redefined. The operation can be performed from around the age of 5. The result is permanent.

Stay: outpatient or possibly 1 night (University Children's Hospital UKBB)

Operation duration: 1-2 hours

Anesthesia: local anesthesia or general anesthesia

Stitches: mostly self-dissolving, residual stitches remain for 14 days

Drains: none

Postoperative: pressure bandage for 8-10 days, able to work after 1-2 weeks, sports after 4-6 weeks

Scars: not visible

Swelling: 4-6 months

Wrinkles / dermatochalasis / actinic elastosis

Folding therapy can be compared to playing an instrument: only those who have all the keys of the instrument at their disposal can produce a harmonious piece.

That is why you are in good hands with a specialist in plastic surgery, because he or she has the entire range of therapies available, from gentle to major surgical options. The treatment of wrinkles is individual. Every face tells a different story, and the possible changes resulting from our therapies will be recommended to you individually after an aesthetic facial analysis. It is important that you are fully informed about the various realistic options and the expected results. Wrinkle therapy belongs in the hands of specially trained doctors who are able to assess the risks and interactions with other medications and who are familiar with the entire range of therapies.

There are different types of wrinkles: Mimic and gravity wrinkles.

Mimic wrinkles are caused by repetitive movements of the mimic muscles, which indent the wrinkles into the skin. This can also happen during sleep. Examples include frown lines (e.g. glabellar lines) and forehead wrinkles (e.g. thinker's lines). These wrinkles can be significantly reduced by the application of botulinum toxin (Botox ®, Dysport ®, Xeomin ®). The effect of botulinum toxin A occurs by blocking the nerve transmission to the muscles. The effect lasts for approx. 4-9 months, depending on the preparation. A pleasant side effect after several applications can be that you will lose the habit of frowning because you have not been able to frown completely for several months. No further botulinum treatments will then be necessary.

Wrinkles caused by gravity or severe weight loss (e.g. sagging cheeks, wrinkles under the corners of the mouth, nasolabial folds) cannot be treated with botulinum toxin. Fillers or a facelift (mini or complete) are the treatment of choice here. Injections with autologous fat can also produce very attractive and long-lasting results. This method is particularly suitable for nasolabial folds.

When choosing a suitable substance, you can choose between so-called permanent and non-permanent fillers. We only use non-permanent fillers, as permanent fillers carry a disproportionately high risk of granuloma formation (foreign body reaction with permanent lumps under the skin).

For deep wrinkles, the combination of botulinum toxin with a filler (e.g. hyaluronic acid) may be recommended.

We can also advise you on the treatment of side effects after wrinkle therapies, e.g. those carried out by non-medical professionals. Please feel free to make an appointment for a consultation.

And: Preventing premature skin ageing is easy, the most effective methods are no secret: good sun protection every day, avoiding nicotine and a balanced lifestyle with sufficient sleep.
