Willkommen zum Symposium des Innovation-Focus Geschlechtervarianz

Dear Colleagues

We are pleased to invite you to a symposium focusing on the tensions of non-binarity in a binary world.

Non-binary people move in a world that is strongly characterized by binary notions of gender in many areas - be it in language, medicine, research or everyday life. This binary structure can lead to invisibility, misunderstandings and barriers. At the same time, non-binarity opens up new perspectives: on the body, identity, belonging and the diversity of human experience.

The symposium aims to create space to make these areas of tension visible. To this end, experts will provide insights into the history of binary and non-binary gender concepts, shed light on the challenges of a binary organized hormone world and discuss perspectives on medical care and surgical options. Voices from the community and the arts will also be heard and show how diverse experiences of non-binarity are. A research team will also present current findings on gender variance and invite participants to discuss innovative approaches.

The aim is to develop a better understanding of the challenges, but also the potential of non-binarity in a binary world - and thus build bridges for a more inclusive society and healthcare.

Dr. Antje Feicke, Urologist
Dr. Johannes Kliebhan, endocrinologist
