Brain metastases
Symptoms
Brain metastases can cause very different symptoms - such as headaches, seizures, speech or vision problems. Sometimes they are only noticed by chance during an examination.
Diagnostics
The most important examination is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition, further imaging procedures and tissue examinations (biopsies) may be necessary in order to optimally plan the therapy.
Therapy options
Treatment depends on the number, size and location of the metastases as well as the underlying cancer, e.g. lung, breast or skin cancer. Surgery, modern radiation procedures and drug therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted drugs or immunotherapies are possible. We discuss the best possible use of these procedures in our interdisciplinary tumor board.
Forecast
The prospects depend heavily on the underlying disease and the individual situation. The aim of treatment is to improve quality of life, alleviate symptoms and keep the disease under control for as long as possible.
"With modern radiotherapy procedures, we can now treat brain metastases in a very targeted manner - with the aim of permanently eliminating them and thus alleviating symptoms, preserving quality of life and gaining time."
