Head, neck and eye tumors
At the Center for Head, Neck and Eye Tumors, clinics and departments work closely together on an interdisciplinary basis. The therapy is individually tailored to the patient. Treatment
At the weekly interdisciplinary tumor conference, all findings are discussed and treatment recommendations are made, which are then discussed with the patient and relatives. We attach great importance to providing detailed and comprehensible information about the benefits and risks of the respective therapy and any alternatives. Once the patient has given their consent, the therapy is initiated immediately.
Operation
The aim of the operation is to completely remove the malignant tumor while preserving organ function and aesthetics. Depending on the extent of the tumor, reconstruction may be necessary. State-of-the-art reconstruction techniques and procedures are used for this. In such cases, several disciplines at the center are involved in the operation. This guarantees optimal treatment and shortens the operation time if performed in parallel.
Radiotherapy
If surgery or the preservation of organ function is not possible, radiotherapy or combined radiochemotherapy is used. State-of-the-art equipment and radiation techniques are used, which enable a significant reduction in undesirable side effects.
Chemotherapy and immunotherapy
Chemotherapy can be useful in various situations. For example, it can be used before surgical therapy or combined with radiotherapy to improve the effect of radiotherapy. Immunotherapy has also been used for some time now. Depending on which drug is used, the therapy is carried out on an inpatient or outpatient basis.
Psycho-oncology
The Center for Head, Neck and Eye Tumors offers you - in addition to medical therapy - targeted psycho-oncological care. In the form of counseling, we help you to regain your emotional balance, security and orientation and to deal better with worries and fears. You can take advantage of this support both during your inpatient stay and during outpatient aftercare.
Care
Our nursing care at the Center for Head, Neck and Eye Tumors focuses on the following areas:
- Support with illness-related restrictions when eating or breathing
- Close cooperation with speech and swallowing therapists in speech therapy
- Dealing with changes in appearance
- Training patients and relatives in tube feeding and tracheostomy tubes
- Close involvement of relatives for further care at home
- Outpatient follow-up care in the aftercare consultation hour
Aftercare
After completion of treatment, patients continue to be cared for in our interdisciplinary tumor aftercare and are regularly monitored over a period of at least five years. If desired, this can also take place alternately with our referring specialist colleagues. Follow-up care is organized by a team of experienced nurses and doctors. If you have any questions or problems, you can also contact us outside of consultation hours.
