Research

Research in the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine is already integrated into the training phase. There is a dedicated research support team and a three-month research rotation during residency training.

In addition to department-specific projects, the handling of large amounts of data (big data) is an overarching research topic - as part of our big data projects, we have realized a large number of developments and are already applying some of them in a clinical environment.

The handling and use of large amounts of medical data (big data) is a research topic that concerns all departments of the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. In cooperation with industrial partners and in close collaboration with the ETH spin-off 4Quant, we have realized a large number of developments in this area. Some are already being used in a clinical environment.

The Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine offers an annual grant of 100,000 Swiss francs to promote highly innovative research. This sum is used to support outstanding scientific projects by assistant and senior physicians, radiology specialists and scientists in radiology and nuclear medicine.

The fund is used for basic, clinical and translational research in the fields of radiology, nuclear medicine, medical physics and radiopharmaceutical chemistry.
Applicants can submit applications for funding on an ongoing basis. These are assessed by an interdisciplinary committee.

Bram Stieltjes, MD, PhD (Research Coordinator of the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and Chairman of the Research Fund Committee) will be happy to answer any questions and provide further information. Applications can be sent directly to him as an informal project outline of 1 - 2 pages.
